Composting

return to Main menu

My dad had always maintained a compost box even in Timmins Ontario where the growing seas was very short indeed! I started a compost box when I moved to Port Burwell. I then modified it to accommodate human waste. When I was expelling oil I discovered that the sunflower meal really heated up with the addition of water and it then became a necessary addition to the compost box. Once I had been adding the sunflower meal to the compost box ideas started to form- Why not use the heat from the compost box to heat the house or heat a biogas generator.... can I use it to heat my sunflower oil in the biodiesel process. The idea that compost has an element of heating is mind boggling... now how can I go about this?

Graham and Mat made a Barrel composter. In this photo here , the barrel is up side down and it is actually vertical.

Here is a new base for the barrel composter.
Here is Graham building what is called a sleeve for the pipe , which the barrel spins on , which is located at the two ends of the pipe.

And at 20 below Celsius the temperature in the open box is 120 F!! This is obviously a source of heat that I must use!

January 1 2009 Yes that is reading about 130 degrees F (57 degrees Celsius) and the weather outside is 8 degrees F (minus 13 degrees Celsius)
