Mat Redsell has always wanted to fly but it was not until he took up hang gliding in the early 80's that it became a reality. He made harpsichords for a number of years. Hang gliding preoccupied his mind and he then moved closer to the flying site in Hammondsport New York where he runs a magazine and mailorder business. In the early part of the 90's he took up fixed wing soaring and started his desire to have a flying wing. Mat repaired a minibat and holds the world record for the most ground skims in that craft. The lessons learned in the minbat have been a factor in joining with the experienced designer, Jim Marske. During the summer of 1997 Mat organized the SHA workshop in Elmira New York, which featured Jim Marske and flying wings. Mat then decided to combine resources with Jim managing workshops and helping develop the Marske Flying Wings. During 1997 to 1999 Mat Built an Maupin Windrose. He has built one Monarch during 1999 and has started and finished a new Monarch G in 2000. Mat has also built a carbon Monarch weighing 138 lbs in 2002

Mat completed his instructors rating in the fall of 1999.

Mike Couts, an avid RC modeler with many talents in the building and design of almost anything. How he ended up working on tractors is beyond all of us except that it does provide a living! Mike is the other pilot who flys the Pioneer. his expertise is invaluable in all areas of flying and buidling. His current project is a trailer for the Pioneer.

Dave Wells, works as a test pilot and engineer for Schwiezers. He is well know for this sailplane competition skills. After flying the monarch he has readily agreed to be a test pilot . Dave's flight in the Pioneer IId in Oct '03 is written up in our Pioneer IId section.

Tim Tanguay has been facinated with aircraft of all kinds since he can remember. With his dad being a "lifer" in the Air Force, flying C-123 , 124 and the C-130 Hercules as a flight-engineer ,it didn't take much exposure to nurture a natural interest in flying and the machines that make cheating gravity possible.
Straight out of high-school Tim continued his education on a more professional level. The instructors at Columbus State Community College in Ohio gave him the fundamentals and the licenses to pursue his dreams of being around aircraft as much as he could. He has even tried his hand at radio control modeling as the particpants of the September workshop learned that gliders don't neccessarily need to land on the ground!
Since becoming a mechanic, Tim has worked on a few interesting aircraft including a P-51, B-17 and the first customer built BD-10 jet homebuilt! He also spent three years working in a propeller overhaul shop where he learned the skill of machining parts to close tolerances.
Tim Tangauy is a licensed airframe and powerplant mechanic with his inspection authorization (that means he is authorized to sign off major repairs, alterations and annual inspections). He has been a mechanic for over 12 years. He is also a student pilot with a strong interest in the homebuilt industry. He feels that seems to be the only place that affordable, new and higher performance aircraft are being developed for the general aviation pubic and he wants to be a part of that. We welcome Tim's enthusiasm and his contributions to this multi-talented group of unique individuals.
