Composites Workshop Held Saturday and Sunday
Saturday 9:00 am get acquainted 9:30 am The properties of carbon, kevlar, carbon and fiberglass cloth. 10:00 am Epoxies and Polyester. What to look for in epoxies, their properties and safety issues. 10:30 am Layup techniques 11:00 am Hands on ,make a fiberglass part from a mold. Use of wax, PVA and epoxy 1:00 Lunch -everyone throws $5 in the pot 2:00 pm Hands on hot wire and bandsaw cutting in foam...find a good use for your battery charger and how to make a bow for hot wiring. 3:30 pm Make a mold in fiberglass from the mold you just made . A fast efficient method unsing shrink wrap or latex paint and drywall compound.. 5 pm Dinner. Visit restaurants close by. 7:30 pm Films and slide shows on the flying and building of the Marske Wings. Sunday 9:00 am Calculating structural strengths in parts made from composites 10:30 am break open the parts made saturday 11:00 pm -Properties of carbon rod and their use in such areas a spars. Movie on spar making. 12:00 Lunch $5 in the pot for lunch 1:00 pm -Repairing fiberglass and Gelcoat 1:30 pm Testing of fiberglass bonding. 2:15 Film and discussion on the making of a polyester trailer for the Monarch. 3:00 pm Finish projects. Finish up the part once cured 4:00 pm Questions etc 5:00pm Session ends. Pre-registration is required ($125). Past Workshops May 11-13th, 2000 October 8, 9 and 10th, 1999 May 6,7,8th 1999 November 12-15, 1998 This workshop offered a complete day to introduce flying wing concepts as well as intermediate airfoil and wing design. in Marion: Daytime snacks and lunch will be provided (everyone throws in $5) and restaurants are close by for breakfast and supper.We have a refrigerator and microwave. Free Camping or "sleeping bag in the office" is available at the Marske workshop, complete with hot showers! RV's accomodated!
